Make a Lace Dress for your American Girl Doll’s Special Occasions

Lace Dress Doll Clothes Pattern

Now we have great doll clothes patterns for your special occasions. Your American Girl dolls will capture everyone’s attention at the nicest formal events wearing this lace dress and matching hat. This outfit is even special enough to wear to Prince William’s royal wedding …or to just watch it on TV.

Both dresses shown here can be made from this pattern.

This beautiful dress is designed to be made from a sheer lace fabric with an embroidered border placed at the hemline. The lining can be a contrasting color for Spring, like our model is wearing. Or, the dress can be made in white lace over a cream lining for a formal ceremony, like Confirmation.

Wow, That dress is gorgeous. Was it difficult to make?

  2. admin Says:

The dress is not difficult to make, but the pattern was complicated and very time consuming to create. That’s why I did not include extra accessories this time.

There are more pattern pieces than the other outfits, so it’s like making two different dresses, then sewing them together. So, it’s not difficult, but it will take you longer to make this dress. It also will take you some extra time to make all those gathers.

If you haven’t purchased the Lace Dress pattern, you may not understand this suggestion. But if you have the pattern…

Here’s another cute option for a second dress using this pattern: Just use the pattern pieces for the Lining and make a casual sundress out of cotton t-shirt fabric. Instead of two layers of fabric for the bodice, use a single layer bodice and use the optional pattern pieces for Neck and Sleeve facings. You could make a Waistband in a contrasting color for a visual ‘punch.’

I just added a photo in the post above to illustrate the patterned cotton dress I was explaining in my previous comment. Hope it helps.

I love both of the dresses and I will be making them for my daughter. By the way, the hobo bag came out wonderfully. Thank you for the pattern.

  5. Marie Says:

Love em’ all. I bought 2 patterns and downloaded the hobo purse, money and wallet. Do you have more accessories available, free or not? Can I sell any of the creations I make?

  6. admin Says:

There are accessories included with several of the patterns. If you look at the details on each pattern page, it lists what’s included. There are shoes, handbags, hats, etc.

Yes, you can sell what you make at local craft shows and charity events that you personally attend. You just CAN NOT sell them ONLINE – on your own website, Etsy or Ebay auctions.

Any chance you’ll offer the 2nd version by itself with accessories in a pattern? I’m looking for a basic dress for 3 different dolls and the liner version would be perfect.

  8. admin Says:

This is the first request I’ve had for that. So, unless I get more requests, I’ll probably move on to new things.

This pattern can be used in so many ways. It would probably be more helpful if I made several different garments using these assorted pattern pieces and posted the photos. For example, the bodice pieces alone would make two very different looking crop-tops.

  9. Kim Says:

This is a beautiful dress! I absolutely adore the hat too! I am a rookie when it comes to sewing, but I just have to try this pattern because it’s soo adorable! Thanks for such wonderful patterns!

  10. Riss Says:

Can you possibly just put the 2nd dress for sale? I love the first dress, it’s beatiful, but I’m just looking for a simple pattern…

  11. admin Says:

These two dresses are made with the same pattern pieces. The ’simple’ dress is just made without the lace overlay. So with this pattern you’re getting two versions of the same design. If I sold them separately, the people who want both dresses would be paying twice for the same pattern.

I just whipped up 3 little hobo bags yesterday afternoon. It was very easy and they are so darn stinkin cute. I know my grandaughter in Florida will love hers for her doll “Kate.” The other 2 are for a friends grandaughters. thanks so much

  13. Joanna Says:

Beautiful! I will be working on my hobo bag this week too …. and am printing money (I wish) as I type.

  14. Maddie Says:

Haven’t made the hobo bag yet, but look forward to completing it this weekend. This is a treat. I am so used to making my own patterns so its nice to have it easier.
